How do you add mods to battlefield 1942?

I added a folder for a mod to the mods folder, but i went to play the game and it didn't work. How do i add mods to this game?How do you add mods to battlefield 1942?
I think you need to select custom game and start it from there, otherwise you need to create a shortcut to the mod by adding "+game 'name'" to the end of the bf1942 shortcut target line.

eg ...\BF1942\BF1942.exe +game desertcombat

It's possible a shortcut was provided with the mod or details how to create one is on the mod creators forum page/website.
