Yes, PR is the most played mod. AIX might be next. Go to game-monitor.com and search for servers running mods and see waht is popular.
Patch 1.50 is released today, so a lot of players will be playing standard BF2 and the 8 free maps released in the patch. PR is not 1.50 compatible yet, so the player count for PR may drop a lot until it is.
